If you are planning on digging for the purpose of installing fence posts, planting trees, installing a pool, building a deck, etc… making contact with underground power lines can be very dangerous even deadly so please call ahead.

Sioux Lookout Hydro Inc. provides an underground cable location service at NO CHARGE during regular working hours so don’t hesitate to call.

Arranging for an underground locate before you dig is also the law. Once the cable location is identified you will be able to proceed with your digging safely.

Sioux Lookout Hydro Inc. performs tree trimming operations that maintains and removes trees along hydro wires to prevent contact with high voltage electrical wires. The purpose of this service is to ensure public safety for our community through a proactive measure to prevent unscheduled power interruptions.

Outages from tree situations are common and are caused when the branches rub on the power lines, and in some instances the branches and/or trees actually fall on the power line. This occurrence is more prominent during adverse weather conditions such as a storm or high winds.

The 1998, Electricity Act of Ontario #BK95 requires that Sioux Lookout Hydro Inc. maintain the trees in our municipal area and brush to minimum clearances around the power line. So if there are any concerns please don’t hesitate to call.

The Electricity Act grants access for Sioux Lookout Hydro to “enter and maintain any land for the purpose of cutting down or removing trees, branches or other obstructions” therefore you are not required to be present at home when our employees arrive to address the problem.
